A few years ago, Coldwell Banker Upton-Massamont Realtors broker/owner Christine Aubrey, gave me two tickets to the annual Iron Bridge Dinner in Shelburne Falls & Buckland, MA. The dinner always falls on a Sunday and that year was no exception. It was a warm summer day, and my husband and I headed out to the Mohawk Trail.
Driving into Shelburne Falls is always a pleasure. It is a true New England town, with little shops, restaurants and art galleries, and of course the glacial potholes and the Bridge of Flowers. On that day, however, there were more people in town than normal and all for the Iron Bridge dinner.
The entire length of the Iron Bridge had been closed off and set up with what looked to be one, very long table, set with linen and china for 400 people. It was magical.
We sat down to eat and enjoyed a hearty salad, a main course of either fish, beef, or chicken, and a wonderful dessert. Our waiters? They were student athletes from the Mohawk Trail Regional High School. A portion of the proceeds from the dinner goes to the Mohawk Trail Regional High School Athletic Association.
While enjoying our dinner, we met wonderful people from the surrounding businesses and villages. Local musicians strolled the span of the table and 400 diners, serenading us. At one point it began to rain, but that was covered by the organizers, The Greater Shelburne Falls Area Business Association (GSFABA). They had umbrellas just waiting for that mishap!
It was a wonderful evening as I’m sure it will be this year, as well. The 19th Annual Iron Bridge Dinner takes place on Sunday, August 18, 2019. Restaurants participating in the dinner this year are The Blue Rock, Gypsy Apple, Hearty Eats, and El Sotano, all local restaurants located in Shelburne Falls and Buckland.
Registration opens a little early, at 3:30pm, giving event goers an opportunity to visit the shops, sites and galleries in Shelburne and Buckland.
Tickets are currently $75 per ticket and can be purchased by calling Kara at the GSFABA office (413) 625-2526 or emailing her at kara@shelburnefalls.com.
